Let’s eavesdrop on Jesus again as He prays outside Lazarus’ tomb. How many people overheard Him? I suspect at least two dozen, probably 40 or 50, maybe a hundred or more. Jesus often traveled with a large entourage, not just the twelve apostles. (See Luke 8:1-3 and 10:1) Read more

Eavesdropping means to listen in secret. It derives from two words: “eaves” which means the edge of the roof that overhangs a house, and “drip” which refers to the rainwater that falls off the roof. You have to be very close to eavesdrop. Wouldn’t you love to have overheard some of our Lord’s prayers? Outside the tomb of Lazarus you can. Eavesdropping may not normally be a good thing, but in John 11 Jesus wants us to listen in as He talks to the Father. Let’s eavesdrop on this graveside prayer. Read more
