The Lord has used Rizpah to open my eyes to the power of prayer. I can see His hand at work now more than ever and I have a greater peace knowing that He is working in situations that look bleak. It has become very precious to be with and to develop deep relationships with godly women who pray earnestly for each another and our children.

The intercessory group, RIZPAH, brings to mind a famous general who served in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. “Stormin’ Norman” Schwarzkoph was known to have flown into the area where his command had been trapped by mine fields. His relentless commitment to guide his soldiers served to free most of his command from the deadly traps that had been set for them. The relentless commitment and prayers or RIZPAH have worked in the unseen world to free your children and my children from unseen, deadly mine traps set by Satan.

Isn’t it interesting how Father God works? In 2004 when I joined a group of three other women it seemed such a good idea to pray for our children. Some were lost, some saved and growing spiritually and some lukewarm not really serious about their relationship with God. Now four years later I stand in awe of not just what Father has done in some of our children but more in how He has changed me. How aware I am that I can’t change or bring anyone to salvation; only God changes hearts. I realize that no matter what sin an unsaved child is involved in the sin isn’t the problem. The problem is that they do not know Jesus and my job is to be faithful to pray asking Father to change their heart and to show that person the love of Jesus in my attitude and actions.

It was His blessing to me when He drew me into this group of seven women, from four different churches whose heart cry is to petition Him for the protection and salvation for our families. He promises that His Word does not return void. Psalm 34:15 says, "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry." As we stand united, we have seen Him divide our sorrows and abundantly multiply our joys!

Rizpah in itself is God’s answer to a prayer that I prayed many times… to have Christian friends. To be a part of a group of like-minded women that pray for our most precious of gifts, our children, is something really special. Our group has seen the power of prayer unfold many times. In all of this, God just continues to draw us closer to him and to each other.

That Tuesday, as I was driving to the very first meeting of RIZPAH, I was slapping my forehead, thinking-”What am I doing? I don’t have time for this!” I was a busy mom of four teenagers and I just couldn’t justify adding one more commitment to my week. But my heart just kept drawing me onward. Now 4 years later, RIZPAH is a vital part of my week- everything else is planned around it! Initially, I went to pray for my children, but the Lord didn’t change them like I wanted- He changed me! I can approach my daily challenges with a calmer attitude, a more graceful approach, and a confidence knowing that as my RIZPAH sisters go with me to the Throne, He listens as I pour out my heart.

The ministry of R.I.Z.P.A.H. has always been for us as mothers to collectively, relentlessly, and persistently, intercede to our Father on behalf of our children, “pleading with Him to change their hearts.” God has done some amazing things in the past four years of prayer, but I can say without hesitation, that in all of my praying for change in my children, God has worked His greatest change in me!

Our daughter Lauren is 9 years old and suffers with migraine headaches. We found out about RIZPAH’s prayer group through a friend from our church. We had Lauren put on RIZPAH’s prayer list as soon as possible. RIZPAH joined with us and started praying for Lauren to be healed from daily migraines. Through our prayers and our faith, we would like to profess that Lauren is doing great. She has gone from having daily migraines to only having them maybe once a month. Please continue to pray for Lauren.

As I grow older and look back through memories, I am in awe of God’s direction in my life. Like a symphony conductor, He directs my life from movement to movement with seamless perfection. RIZPAH was one of those movements. God directed me into this group and I praise Him for it! In addition to the bonds I’ve developed with the other women in my group, I have strengthened my prayer life and have grown spiritually through the study of His word. But the greatest benefit of RIZPAH came on June 25, 2007 when my son, Jacob, accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. RIZPAH taught me the importance of speaking to both of my teenagers about their salvation decision. When Jacob admitted that he wasn’t sure he had made such a decision, we discussed it and then were able to pray together for him to receive Jesus into his heart. It was a special time for both of us that we’ll never forget.
