Our Purpose

That our Children May Know Him

Children!  The source of our greatest happiness and our greatest pain.  Are they aware of the power they hold over us?  A child has the ability to send our spirits soaring with joy, filling our hearts with pride; or, to plunge us spiraling into the depths of hopeless despair and shame.  Anita van Buren, mother of two teenagers, said, “A mother can only be as happy as her unhappiest child.”  [Van Buren is currently serving as a Lieutenant for New York’s finest on the popular television series Law and Order.]  Ahhh, the wisdom of the world.

Like Anita, I find myself riding the roller coaster of ups and downs, accomplishments and failures, spiritual highs and crushing defeats in each of my children.  For years it was important for me to give the appearance of eagle’s wings, soaring above the trials, embodying the ideal.  But in reality, I’ve often been on the ash heap, mourning the spiritual death of a child. The ash heap is a very lonely place.  Is this where you are? I know you, your pain and grief.  Nothing, absolutely nothing, is more important to you than this child’s salvation; your spirit yearns for the experience of 3 John 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (ESV)

This website is designed for you.  You are not alone.  Allow me to climb up on the ash heap with you for awhile and introduce you to Rizpah.  Her story is a catalyst to point you to the hope that is found in the person of Jesus Christ.  We will cry out together to Him, full of hope because of His work on the cross, pleading with Him to bring our children from spiritual death to life, that they may know Him and the power of His resurrection.  NHJ
